Yorkshire Office Group, based in Wakefield have been supplying office furniture and supplies to the Wakefield area for over 15 years. We offer a bespoke office design service, and because of this we like to keep our fingers on the pulse of design to ensure that we are keeping up with the latest trends.
However, in an unusual twist a contemporary furniture designer has decided to take a sharp turn away from modern office furniture design.
Dutch furniture brand Lensvelt has produced a collection of office furniture called The Boring Collection. Unsurprisingly the furniture is all made in a monotone grey and utilises simple shapes and designs.
The idea behind The Boring Collection is to be in complete contrast with offices such as Google. Google are renowned for having an extremely relaxed atmosphere, with contemporary, trendy, un-office like offices.
The designers of The Boring Collection believe that while some of the principles behind the Google office have their place, they can in fact detract away from the original purpose of an office, which is to work.
The collection comprises of a plain grey desk chair, a visitor chair, acoustic panel, low and high cabinets and four types of desk as well as a boring bin and clock. The simple shapes and the dull colour aims to make the furniture pass as unnoticed as possible, allowing workers to concentrate on the task in hand.
We at Yorkshire office group are curious to see how this collection is received. Though we see the point that Lensvelt is trying to make, we can’t help but think that perhaps this is a step too far, and most offices will want a level on individualism and personality.
