New research that has come from the University of Konstanz in Germany has suggested that workers who feel younger than their true age, actually achieve more personal job goals – indicating that creative offices that include playful amenities could actually be on to something.
For many creative companies here in Yorkshire, especially in Leeds and Wakefield, a lot of them now boast a bar and games rooms which can include amenities such as pool tables and even video games, all of which have had a lot of people questioning is this playful office furniture really an essential or a distraction?
However, the new study asked more than 15,000 employees at 107 German companies to provide the researchers with their real age, alongside the age they felt, and other self-reported performance measures such as job goals achieved that year. As a result, on average workers felt 4.4 years younger than they actually were, with the study also proving that the average age of a company dropped and the goals accomplished by the workforce went up.
Their analysis also suggested that as a goal accomplishment rose, so did the company’s performance – meaning that employees who felt younger got more work done during the day.
